Today the northern half of sector B was cleaned and photographed. The fill 3831 in front of the original facade of the church was lowered and a skeleton was partially uncovered.
Team members cleaned all of Section D. We continued to excavate the hole in the South-West area (Context 5586). The hole is much deeper than previously imagined, more then an arm's-length at present and the fill continues deeper in the ground. An extremely eroded ulna, without enough distinctive, characteristics to be sided was found. There is a strange patch through the side of the wall that might be the fill of a different hole.
Today in area 6000 we removed almost all of skeleton 6238. We finished removing the left and right ribs, the right scapula, and the entire pelvis, which came out in large fragments. The vertebrae we managed to remove in one large stack along with the sacrum. We wrapped this in multiple layers of cloth to protect it so Chiara can study its pathology in the osteo lab. The left scapula is the only remaining bone, which we will remove Monday. We will then clean the grave and look for the cut.
(group 3000) today more of fill 6551 was removed, revealing several more vertebrae and a right rib block most likely in connection with the humerus and clavicle previously revealed. Several small bone fragments were revealed in the eastern third of the fill, including a rib, a fragment of fibula diaphesis, and a large, curved bone which may be either a fragment of illium or a fragment of parietal bone. A large collection of assorted bone fragments, some unidentified, were revealed in the western third.
Team members cleaned the rock (context 7008) and slate (context 7014) in the center East extremity of Area 7000, in order for photos to be taken. Following this, rocks were removed and the area was troweled and brushed to better expose the slate feature. GIS points were taken and the area was cleaned one last time.
